Lucius Annaeus Seneca was a statesman, playwright and the wealthiest philosopher of his age, tutor and later advisor to the emperor Nero. His Letters to Lucilius read like a friend writing to a friend about the real problems of a life: time, money, fear, anger, grief and how to die well. Ordered by Nero to take his own life, he met the end with the composure he had spent decades writing about.
